All I Need to Survive

Here’s what I’ve found out about myself since becoming a mommy: I can manage without sleep, without a shower, without a heater, and without going outside for days on end–BUT if my baby is unhappy for too long or my coffee maker stops working I will probably flip out.

1. Harvey Karp’s The Happiest Baby on the Block was a lifesaver for me once Aisland entered Fussy For No Reason Land.  I was already instinctively doing the 5 “S’s”  Karp recommends to calm her but there are lots of little tips the book has given me that has made THAT TIME OF DAY much, much easier.

2. My beloved Aveeno Ultra-Calming Moisturizer is the only constant in my life. I don’t know how long my baby will sleep or when I’ll get a chance to shower, but I know that everyday I can go into my bathroom and the best moisturizer in the world will be there to freshen my face and help me feel less drabby.

3. The other day the coffee maker had issues and my Dunkin’ Donuts Hazelnut Blend was ruined halfway through brewing.  I Charlie Brown-walked back to the living room and pouted. Joshua fixed the coffee maker as soon as he woke up but I still so traumatized I refused to drink coffee for about, oh um, 2 days. Going without the DD didn’t last long but now I treat the coffee maker like it’s my other child.

So yeah, I’m one of those people who say, “Oh la-tee-da I never wanted kids. But then I had little Madison Ann Marie and I can’t imagine my life without her!” That is so true, Yo. Aisland turns 1 month this week and she is the shit and she knows it. There is a very good reason her father and I nicknamed her Henry (as in: King Henry VIII). She’s a little porker and she’s loud and demanding and gives people looks like she wants to behead them. She is definitely our daughter! Having a child has made me smarter, and not just because I google every mini-issue that comes up. I’ve learned to be more communicative, instinctive, practical, and logical. 30 days into motherhood I’m doing swell, but ask me again when she becomes a toddler or even worse, a tween, OH NOOOO.

LOL I love you Brookeface. I was kind of scared that you would change when you had Aisland…and you have, but in a good way. You’re still the funny Brooke I know. Now you’re just Funny Mommy Brooke.

It’s hilarious that you guys call her Henry. Those dirty looks she gives sound JUST LIKE you and Yoshi. :) I can’t wait to visit in a few weeks. But she will probably cry is I hold her. Kids hate me.

Just don’t stop being my friend b/c I’m “a late bloomer” as my stepmother says. Apparently, I have waited too long to have children…but that’s another story (that I will probably blog about today). :)

No way…my friends without kids are still my closest friends. I worry people will stop being friends with me ’cause I do have a kid.

The friends I have that are mommies are super awesome people too…but it helps that I’ve known them for a long time and they’re my kind of people, otherwise I can’t imagine joining some pretentious mommy group like I see hanging out in the kids section of my work in the middle of the day being all snooty and boring and rich.

I know Aisland will like her Auntie Tiffany ’cause you have boobs and she likes to snuggle against a good pair. I can’t wait to you get here!

Don’t worry Tiff, I’m a late bloomer too and I’m sure I will be for a while. I get even more pressure since I’ve been married for almost 5 yrs. Apparently it’s a crime to not have had kids yet. Whatever.
BrookIE, I’m so sad that u r so far away during this awesome time in ur life but I’m glad u share it with us from miles away. I look foward to these blogs, I feel like I get to talk to u everyday :).
PS u should buy Henry a crown, or get one from Burger King. That would be awesome!

Thanks Naomi…and you’re not THAT weird since you actually bothered to get married. Apparently, I am a freak of nature. LOL

PS – a Burger King crown customized by Momma BrookeFace would be SUPER AWESOME!

I should totally make Henry a crown!

Oh and I thought I was too young to have kids, haha. My mom had me at 27 and I always wanted to beat her out and have my first one (if one at all) around 30.

I think I’ll have to just do a template for the crown, ’cause Joshua cussed out a guy who works at the Burger King near our house so I’m avoiding that place for like, a year, lol.

Booface! You crack me up. I’m really happy for you, but I have to admit, I’m bummed you haven’t been here yet.
So you owe us a visit, yo! That shit’s been pending since like 3 Easters ago. Now, you and the fam owe us one, once you’re settled, of course. We have a guest room, doncha know!
I’m glad this happened to you first, dude. Whenever, if ever, I have brats, I’m going to call on this blog for advice. I’m curious about the 5 S’s, but I’d rather not think about it yet. Self-fulfilling reads can lead to self-fulfilling prophecies! haha.
    ps-Aveeno’s the shiznit. *e

My Little Fawn a la Brooke

I'm Brooke. I like pictures of brick walls and shop windows. I am most often seen making inappropriate comments, fondling books, and cooing at cute stuff. If you constantly play with your phone while in my presence, there is a good chance I will despise you greatly. More
